All about sleep hygiene, dust mites and linen.

The influence of your duvet
Our bodies lose heat and moisture. Your duvet plays a crucial role in the evaporation of heat and moisture to the environment. Therefore, choose a duvet that's suited to the temperature in your bedroom, but also based on your temperature and how easily you sweat. This way, fewer perspiration residues remain on your bed.
Your duvet is covered with a duvet cover. The cover protects the duvet from the most stubborn dirt, but it also determines the feel of your duvet. Most covers are made of cotton. Depending on how this cotton is processed and woven, you get (percale) cotton, satin, or flannel.

  • Cotton is highly absorbent and feels fresh. Percale cotton has a higher thread count and finer yarns. The higher the thread count, the softer and more lustrous it is. The weave density of percale starts at 180 to 200 counts per inch, while regular cotton has a weave density of around 140 counts per inch. The quality of cotton is determined not only by the thread count but also by its length and fineness. Egyptian cotton is characterized by its long fibers and is therefore of very high quality.
  • Satin or cotton sateen is woven differently. More threads are used. Here too, a higher thread count results in a smoother fabric. Because sateen is smooth, it wrinkles less easily. The sheen of cotton sateen comes from the more threads on the surface that reflect light. Furthermore, it retains the beneficial properties of cotton.
  • Flannel is loosely spun cotton that has been brushed. This makes it feel softer and fluffier, and it retains warmth better. It also retains the beneficial properties of cotton.
  • Microfiber is a synthetic fabric made of polyester and polyamide. Microfiber duvet covers are often soft and supple, but they absorb little to no moisture. Therefore, these duvet covers are not included in our product range.

Always follow the washing instructions included. Cotton and flannel can generally be washed at 60°C. Satin is a more delicate fabric, so the recommended temperature is often 40°C.

The influence of your mattress cover
A mattress consists of a core and a cover. Often, you don't have a choice of cover, as it's part of the mattress itself. The mattress cover consists of two layers and a filling.

  • A cover with synthetic filling is often washable up to 60°C but may not be as breathable. You should wash the cover regularly to keep it hypoallergenic.
  • A cover with a natural filling, on the other hand, offers good ventilation but is often not washable. You can have it dry-cleaned. Washing or possibly replacing a mattress cover is only possible if it is zip-off.
It is best to first place a mattress protector around your mattress and then a fitted sheet.

How do you protect your mattress?
Heat and moisture that can't evaporate into the environment end up in the mattress. Although your mattress is capable of absorbing and ventilating a large portion of heat, it's recommended to protect it. There are a variety of mattress protectors with different properties.

  • For example, you can choose a PU protector. This is waterproof and water-repellent. Moisture isn't absorbed but remains on the protector. PU protectors offer little to no ventilation. To keep this protector clean, you should wash it regularly. This protector is washable at 60°C.
  • There are protectors with a semi-permeable membrane, such as the Satinesse Protect. This means it's waterproof but still allows ventilation. The membrane has antibacterial properties. This protector is washable at 60°C.
  • A molton is usually a cotton protector. The cotton is brushed, making it softer to the touch, and its absorbency provides protection. Tencel-based moltons are also available. While molton doesn't have a waterproof layer, it does offer excellent ventilation. In the event of a minor accident and a significant amount of moisture loss, the protector may not be able to absorb enough moisture. These protectors are washable at 60°C.
  • 3D protectors consist of two layers and a mesh that keeps these layers open. This creates an air gap between the body and the mattress. The compressibility and resilience (and therefore the quality) are determined by the structure of the mesh. SmartSleeve protectors contain capsules with anti-allergic and/or thermoregulatory properties. They have a proactive effect against dust mites. It is recommended to wash this protector at 40°C to maintain its proactive effect.

An anti-allergy protector is essentially a mattress protector that is washable at 60°C. Dust mites cannot survive at this temperature. Therefore, it's important to wash it regularly, otherwise the mattress protector won't provide any anti-allergy benefits.

The choice of fitted sheet
A fitted sheet protects the mattress against the worst of the dirt, but also largely determines the feel of your mattress.

  • Cotton is highly absorbent and feels fresh. However, pure cotton isn't stretchy. The stretched surface reduces the mattress's elasticity.
  • Jersey cotton is a blend of cotton (97%) and elastane (3%). Elastane is a synthetic fiber with high stretch. The high cotton content allows the fitted sheet to retain its absorbent properties. The elastane helps maintain the mattress's elasticity.
  • A variation on jersey cotton is a blend of cotton (47.5%), tencel (47.5%), and elastane (5%). The fitted sheet is more elastic, and the combination with tencel creates a softer, lighter feel.

The fitted sheets are washable at 60°.
